The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent Volume 2 (Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou desu)- Story & Art by: Yuka Tachibana Yasuyuki Syuri Translation: Julie Goniwich
Warning: Spoilers ahead! (I think?) Check out Volume 1 Review here. A digital review copy was provided by the publisher.
The grand magus Yuri has finally awakened to check Sei's abilities. She goes on training with Yuri and also meets the other summoned girl, Aira. It's getting clearer who's the real saint among the two ladies.
When I first saw the news that it will be animated, the general comment I saw is that it's boring. I don't find it boring but two words that come to mind: too neat. Everything fells perfectly into Sei's favor. The other possible conflict is resolved too quickly. I need something to shake things up. Well, I hope things get harder for our heroine. Haha! I find myself engrossed in reading it like when I'm lost in research. (Ooh very Sei-like too I might add.) Not boring research but like in deep flow reading a topic that I am interested in. Also apparently, characters with overblown powers are overused with isekai. But I haven't seen any recent non-reverse harem isekai for me to be put off with this. But as much as I love Sei's character, I find Aira lacking. Maybe there will be a twist in the future volume to fix this? Maybe that's why Aira gets her spin-off with her reverse harem too. Another thing I find lacking is when they encountered monsters. I was looking for a literal description of the monsters.
The volume is super short since it's part of a series and I have to remind myself that and not be anxious with the developments. In the end, the author mentioned that the story or characters changed based on comments. You have to also consider the writer sharing a story online for users to enjoy and critique. Maybe at first, it was not on the mindset of how it would appear when read like a published novel? I am just assuming here.
So is it a reverse harem? I imagined grand magus Yuri as an old man. Turns out he's young and handsome and another guy that keeps making Sei flustered. Not in a romantic way but more like she can't handle his handsomeness. Albert's brother, Erhart (second to the Magus) is also highlighted on the colored illustration but nothing really significant happened. But Yuri did notice that both brothers are interested in her who normally doesn't take any interest in girls at all. I totally forgot who Erhart was lol I remembered his role but I've forgotten his name. He wasn't what I pictured him to be. In my mind, he kinda looks like Yuri. At this point, Albert is the only one who obviously has romantic feelings for Sei. Jude seems like a friend but you know he can develop feelings for her too since he's very concerned with her while Johann is the mentor figure who would occasionally tease her. The reverse harem is becoming clearer now but still more like surrounded and not the pursued-reverse-harem.I am not gushing over the book but I think this will make a pretty decent anime. It's safe to assume the anime will cover the second volume since Yuri appeared. It's interesting to note that this and My Next Life as a Villainess both started on user-generated novel publishing site, Shosetsuka ni Naro. More reverse harem anime adaptations, please! Are you excited about the anime? Here are the character designs of the bishonen from the anime. Where's Erhart though? Update: His seiyuu was released yesterday. Ahh, I love the PV.
